The Entada Gigas seeds rarely germinate but when one does, its hard shell will become soft and leathery and swell about 30% larger than its usual size. Soon a root and vine sprout, and the hungry seedling will feed off its own embryo, until the vine can take root in the ground and the earth can provide for the vine's fast-growing needs!

Besides the possibility of propagation of the species, the sea heart embryo plays another important role as Life Preserver. During seed growth the embryo creates a hollow cavity that fills with air. The air pocket trapped in a protective seed coat gives the seed the buoyancy needed to launch the seaheart on its maiden voyage.
